Microsoft officially announced the security solution Microsoft Defender for Business on March 1st, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises. Currently, it supports the Microsoft 365 Business Premium and a standalone version is planned to be released later this year.
Defender for Business targets small and medium-sized enterprises with less than 300 employees. In addition to preventing ransomware, malware, or phishing attacks, it also has features such as threat and vulnerability management, attack surface reduction, next-generation protection, endpoint detection and response, as well as automated investigation and remediation. Microsoft claims that it can provide SMEs with enterprise-level endpoint security solutions
Microsoft plans to roll out Defender for Business to existing Microsoft 365 Business Premium customers in the coming weeks, and users can see this new option on the Microsoft 365 Defender security portal. New Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscribers can immediately access the service.
Defender for Business is positioned as a comprehensive solution, therefore it supports endpoint protection on multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.
Microsoft announced Defender for Business in November last year and launched it in preview mode in December. This week, it released the official version, and the standalone version of Defender for Business has also entered the preview stage.
